I piled my anxiety in couplets

I close my eyes and wait,
for this chaining heavy stillness to abate,
for the freezing air to melt and flow,
so I can move and breathe and let go.

I close my eyes and wait,
befriending the invisible weight
and the shadow of doubt,
that come and go, in and out.

I close my eyes and keep my ear,
waiting for the chirping birds to draw near.
Their serenades soothe my restless soul,
their flappy wings a sign of whole.

I keep my eyes closed and wait for the turn,
for the miles between us to adjourn,
for a warm embrace I’ve long adored.
Closer, like it was before.

I keep my eyes closed and wait,
this pitch-black darkness, my innate fate,
til I hear steps getting closer,
and a gentle tap on my shoulder.

I open my eyes and all I see,
is a void of nothingness, a voiceless bee.

My first official piece for #firstlinepoets @firstlinepoets hosted by @emmajanepoetry for their June project. Happy to be involved and partnered with @breathwords, who provided me with a stunning first line, “I close my eyes and wait”, and patiently answered my beginner questions. “Heavy stillness” and “the miles between us” are also borrowed from her options of gorgeous prompts. Thank you, @breathwords; I owe you a lot!
