I can finally sleep

Do you know how comfortable it is
to sit and curl atop smooth fabrics,
close your eyes and go deep into slumber
under dozens of hung jackets and coats
inside a closed wardrobe
and feel the darkness protect you from blinding lights
and the shallow oxygen,
with a faint hint of softener,
finally let you breathe?
Oh, it’s safe. I am sheltered.
The world isn’t too big and suffocating anymore.
I can let my guard down
and finally sleep.

And do you know how calming it is,
to crawl and lie down under the bed
with your back touching the dusty floor,
grounding you,
and in the dimness you blankly stare
at the cobweb-decorated wooden board
just inches away from your nose,
and as the noise begins to fade
you start counting the sheep in the daze
till the plank turns into a green field,
where the counted sheep eat grass and run around freely?
Oh, it’s safe. I am shielded
from the dirty world filled with monsters.
I can let my guard down
and finally sleep.

I can finally sleep.
